Berry Global's new silage wrap cuts crop loss by 52% and paves the way for sustainable farming innovations.

Berry Global has launched a recyclable silage wrap that aims to cut feed losses and reduce farm waste, as the plastics group positions itself at the centre of U.S. agricultural sustainability efforts.
The product, branded Silotite Film&Film, was introduced in April. Unlike conventional netwraps, it uses a dual-layer film design to secure feed bales more tightly. Field tests showed a 52 per cent reduction in silage losses, a potential boost to farm yields at a time of rising input costs and squeezed margins.
Made from a single, fully recyclable material, the wrap is intended to ease post-use collection and recovery. Existing netwraps are often made from mixed composites that rarely enter recycling streams. The company said the design aligns with state and federal measures to limit agricultural plastic waste.
"This is about more than just preserving feed," said Tim Ferrel, vice-president of agricultural films at Berry Global. "It's about giving farmers a tool that delivers in the field and supports their sustainability goals."
The U.S. farming sector is under growing pressure to cut emissions and adopt more sustainable practices. Berry Global has committed to incorporating 30 per cent recycled content into all its agricultural films by the end of 2025.
Analysts said adoption of the new wrap would depend on the availability of compatible machinery and the strength of regional recycling networks. Costs could also be a hurdle for some producers.
Even so, the launch highlights a shift in the agri-plastics sector towards more closed-loop solutions. With demand rising for technologies that balance productivity and environmental performance, Berry Global's initiative may set the pace for competitors seeking to adapt to tighter regulation and sustainability targets.
